If you or someone you love is searching for eating disorders and addiction treatment, you are not alone. Many individuals live with co-occurring eating disorders and substance use, and recovery is most successful when both conditions are treated together. The best outcomes happen when medical, psychological, and nutritional care are coordinated from day one. National health organizations emphasize the importance of integrated, compassionate treatment designed to restore both physical and emotional well-being.¹,²,³

At Empower Health Group, we understand how complex these challenges can feel. Our Boca Raton location serves as our administrative headquarters only, while treatment is provided through our trusted partner centers across Massachusetts, California, and Florida. Our clinicians combine proven therapies with individualized care plans that meet you where you are. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency department.²,⁵

Why Eating Disorders and Addiction Treatment Require Integrated Care

Eating disorders and addiction treatment should always address both conditions simultaneously. Integrated treatment for eating disorders brings together therapy, nutrition, and medical monitoring under one coordinated plan. This approach prevents relapse and supports sustainable recovery by targeting the root causes of both conditions at once.¹,²,³

Research from SAMHSA and NIDA shows that treating eating disorders and substance use together reduces relapse risk, improves long-term outcomes, and promotes healthier coping skills.¹,³ Each Empower facility follows these guidelines, combining structure, compassion, and science-based interventions that protect your health while rebuilding stability and self-trust.

Evidence-Based Therapies We Use

Our eating disorders and addiction treatment programs include multiple evidence-based therapies that help clients heal emotionally and physically. Two of the most effective are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).²,³

CBT for eating disorders focuses on identifying thought patterns that fuel disordered eating and substance use. Clients learn to challenge unhelpful beliefs, replace them with balanced perspectives, and practice these new habits daily. DBT for binge eating and bulimia builds emotional regulation and coping strategies to manage urges and stress without returning to old behaviors.²,⁴

Beyond individual sessions, we incorporate nutrition therapy, medical monitoring, and family therapy to reinforce every stage of recovery. Dietitians help stabilize nutrition, clinicians monitor physical safety, and family involvement strengthens support systems at home.²,⁵ Learn more about our integrated approach to therapy on our therapy programs page.

Levels of Care Across Our Network

Across all Empower facilities, eating disorders and addiction treatment is offered through multiple levels of care that adjust to your needs as you progress. These include residential treatment for co-occurring disorders, a structured partial hospitalization program (PHP) for eating disorders, a flexible intensive outpatient program (IOP) for co-occurring disorders, and continued outpatient (OP) therapy and alumni support to maintain long-term wellness.¹,²

Throughout every level, clinicians coordinate medical assessments, monitor safety markers, and help you transition smoothly between stages.²,⁵ Visit our levels of care page for a full overview of how these programs work together.

What to Expect During Your First Week

During your first week of eating disorders and addiction treatment, your team will complete a full medical and nutritional assessment, followed by a personalized recovery plan. You’ll start individual therapy, group sessions, and nutritional stabilization as needed. Your care team will also teach relapse-prevention strategies for both eating-related and substance-related triggers.²,⁵

The first week focuses on stabilization and comfort. Expect compassion, structure, and daily progress, not perfection.

Understanding Dual Diagnosis and Beginning Recovery

A dual diagnosis of an eating disorder and addiction means both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder occur together.¹,³ These cases require simultaneous treatment for each issue to prevent relapse and encourage sustained recovery. Our clinicians conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patterns, triggers, and the therapies most effective for your individual needs. Learn more about how we approach complex cases on our dual diagnosis page.
